Thailand's new prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul has pledged to boost the country's economy and resolve security issues swiftly during his policy address to parliament on Monday.

Anutin took office after his predecessor was ousted by a court ruling. He leads a minority government that promises to dissolve parliament in four months.

He said, "With the limited time that we have, a budget not prepared by this government, as well as being a minority administration, we must urgently address the challenges currently facing the nation."

To revive the Thai economy, Anutin pledged to implement policies that generate income for people and reduce the cost of living. He also vowed to focus on tourism by restoring visitors' confidence with more crackdowns on scam operations that target them.

On security issues, Anutin said the government will expedite the peaceful resolution of border disputes with Cambodia, while preserving Thailand's sovereignty.

Anutin has appointed experienced government officials and business leaders for key ministerial posts. His picks and policy speech are seen as reflecting the government's need to yield quick results before the general election, which is expected to take place in March or April.
