A Muslim imam who previously was invited to pray before Congress has been proposed for a formal rebuke after he unleashed an “incendiary” comment on the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham.
Omar Suleiman commented on social media, “May you live an eternity in ruins” after news about Graham’s death appeared.
Suleiman is with the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research near Dallas, and his comment was noticed by Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, who suggested a resolution to formally condemn the hate that was exhibited.
A report by Fox News said Suleiman’s comment was, “In other news, Lindsey Graham is dead. Bye Lindsey. May you live an eternity in ruins for the ruins you helped create in Gaza. Ameen.”
Van Duyne expressed concern that Congress must “condemn his incendiary message,” especially after he had been invited by Democrats in 2019 to open the House with prayer, the report said.
Van Duyne told Fox, “This type of action from a religious leader that claims to preach about love and not hate needs to be condemned. That was anything but love. That was depravity. Is this really what you believe—that you’re going to take a sitting senator who has just died, and you’re going to condemn his soul to an eternity of ruins because you don’t agree with his politics?”
The report noted Graham was a leading advocate for Israel on a number of occasions, including regarding its war against the terrorists of Hamas, who invaded Israel and slaughtered some 1,200 innocent civilians on October 7, 2023.
She continued, “It needs to be condemned by those Democrats who called him to the House floor to preach. I would love to be able to get Democrats who are on the floor who don’t agree that this is the type of action that a religious leader should take.”
It was ex-Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, who issued the invitation to Suleiman. At the time, he already was noted for his calls for violence, including a demand for “a third intifada,” and claims that Zionists are “enemies of God.”

They gleefully celebrate the death of their political adversaries openly on social media, then often act surprised when others react to them with disgust, or if there are consequences.
