‘Changed the election rules’: Democracy takes huge hit when Germans follow Colorado’s example * WorldNetDaily * by WND Staff

Democracy has been taking a beating of late, what with aging dictator Daniel Ortega declaring there will be no more elections in Nicaragua and police raiding the political party of Victor Orban in Hungary.

Now those politicians who are part of the favored parties in Germany have begun simply disqualifying candidates from disfavored parties from elections.

Like Colorado tried to do to President Donald Trump in 2024.

Back then, six voters demanded Trump be thrown off the election ballot because they believed him to be an insurrectionist, which wasn’t the case as he was never charged with such a count, much less convicted.

But that leftist state’s Democrat-run courts, dominated by an anti-Trump agenda, sustained their complaints and the fiasco only ended when the U.S. Supreme Court, even the leftists there, joined in an opinion that unanimously struck down the state’s political agenda.

Now the Gateway Pundit is documenting that politicized banning of disfavored candidates in Germany.

The report explains how Martin Sichert, a Bundestag member of the Alternative for Germany party, a conservative movement hated by leftists and progressives across the nation, was banned from being a candidate for a county board “by the very parties he is running against.”

The report said the AfD is currently the strongest political party nationwide there with 29% support at the polls.

Nationally, political opponents “have not been able to prove the AfD is a danger to democracy,” so in various local level disputes, such as one in Lower Saxony, “ruling red-green coalition changed the election rules in February, allowing local election boards to ban individual candidates if they have ‘doubts in their loyalty to the constitution,’ however that may be defined.”

At this point, “local elections board” there “have started examining and even banning AfD candidates from running.”

The report said at least 11 AfD candidates are currently being investigated for allegedly lacking “loyalty to the constitution,” in a scenario that offers no appeal.

Also, AfD candidate Reinhild Goes has been banned from running for mayor in Nörten-Hardenberg, the report said.

A Newsweek report only a few months ago confirmed democracy is deteriorating in much of the world, and it cited a leftist group that claimed President Trump was contributing to that decline in America.

The White House to Newsweek rejected the claim from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, and said, in fact, democracy is being strengthened by Trump’s agenda.

The organization did, however, point to the polarization – the increasing distance between leftist and progressive agendas and traditional conservative views of democracy – that is evident today.
