Houston, we have a mountain or two of a problem.

The British Broadcasting Corporation is reaching new heights of absurdity as the network created a false background featuring mountains for Houston, Texas, a city famous for flatness, sitting a mere 50-feet above sea level.

The Houston Chronicle reports: “BBC, the British news outlet, hosted a World Cup studio show on Wednesday shortly after the completion of DR Congo’s 1-1 draw against Portugal in the second 2026 World Cup match held at Houston Stadium. The studio show broadcast an AI-generated image of Houston’s skyline in the background as analysts discussed the match, featuring a largely accurate depiction.

“One issue with the AI image? The left side of the screen was adorned with rolling foothills and mountains, depicting a scene more fit for Los Angeles, Salt Lake City or Phoenix than Houston.”

Not the Bee noted: “The folks over at the BBC, notorious for their objective and totally truthful reporting, took one look at the skyline of Houston and thought, ‘That can’t be right. Houston has mountains. We should add some mountains to this skyline.’

Social media was quick to mercilessly make a mountain out of this, well, mountain.
