22-year-old Army cadet dies during summer training at Fort Knox
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) - An Army cadet in Kentucky has died while attending the Cadet Summer Training exercise at Fort Knox.
U.S. Army officials said 22-year-old Cadet Neil Edara from Ridgewood, New Jersey, died on Thursday at Fort Knox’s Land Navigation site.
“Cadet Edara was one of the most dedicated and promising young leaders I’ve had the privilege to know,” Lt. Col. Timothy Sorensen, professor of military science at Rutgers University, said.

According to the U.S. Army Cadet Command, Edara became unresponsive while conducting land navigation training.
The 22-year-old was medically transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he was declared dead.
“His calm, collected demeanor and unwavering commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on everyone around him. His loss is deeply felt across the entire ROTC and Rutgers community,” Sorensen said.
A private memorial for Edara is planned for cadets attending Cadet Summer Training on July 28.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Sorensen said.
The cadet’s official cause of death is still under investigation.
