WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., announced Tuesday that the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., will be honored in a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda on July 28.

Thune said additional details of the Capitol ceremony will be released later, but added the ceremony will recognize Graham’s more than three decades of congressional service and a public career that also included military service and state government.

“For so many of us in the Senate and the House, myself included, Lindsey was more than a colleague, he was a friend,” Thune said in a statement announcing the tribute.

The South Carolina Republican, who served for decades in the Senate after earlier service in the House of Representatives, was described by Thune as a public official who devoted his career to military service, state politics and representing South Carolinians in Congress.

“From the military to state politics to decades of representing South Carolinians in Congress, Lindsey dedicated his life to giving back through public service,” Thune said. “As we say our final goodbyes, it seems fitting for his friends and colleagues to give back to him through this special Capitol honor.”

Additional information about funeral arrangements are to be announced separately, the majority leader said.
