While giving an update on her health, Dolly Parton makes a surprising career announcement, saying she’s heading to Broadway for her production.

In an Instagram video she posted on Tuesday, Parton announced that her show, DOLLY: A True Original Musical, is heading to Broadway. “Just like the title says, I mean true in every sense of the world.”

“Now, this isn’t a story about sparkle and shine on the outside,” the country singer said on an Instagram video on Tuesday, saying she won’t be performing in the show.

“It’s about where I really come from, what I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved, and how I’ve found my way, and told it in my own words.”

Parton, 80, shared that the musical will be told in her “own words and through the music that’s been part of every step of the journey.” She also confirmed that the musical will have some of her biggest hits, but will also feature brand new songs that she’s written just for the show.

“This really is a dream come true,” Parton said. “I can’t wait to share it with all of you.”

The highly anticipated musical kicks off in New York City with previews this December and opens on January 19, 2027. Pre-sale ticket access starts on Wednesday.

This exciting stage comes only a few months after she announced the cancellation of the Dolly: Live in Las Vegas residency due to ongoing health issues.

In May, Parton shared these issues, saying, “I have some good news and a little bad news.”

“The good news is I’m responding really well to the meds and treatments, and I’m improving every day.”

However, the “9-to-5” singer shared the bad news that “it’s gonna take a little while” until she’s up to stage performance level again.
