The world is still in shock over the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He was tragically shot dead on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. Kirk was only 31 years-old. His assassin was finally apprehended on Friday after a massive two day manhunt.

On September 11, the day after Kirk’s murder, the country music star Jason Aldean performed in Detroit, Michigan. Aldean stopped this concert midway through it to pay a touching tribute to Kirk, telling his fans just how much the young conservative activist meant to him.

Aldean Stops Concert To Honor Kirk

“An amazing person by the name of Charlie Kirk was murdered yesterday in Utah,” began Aldean, 48.

Cheers erupted as soon as Aldean mentioned Kirk’s name. The country music star went on to say that he’d met Kirk many times over the years.

“One of the best people ever,” he said of Kirk. “This is not the guy you go after, is what I’m trying to say. And it’s a weird country that we live in when you start taking people out because you disagree with their opinions. That’s not what we’re about here.”

Aldean then talked about the backlash that he received over his 2023 anti-woke anthem “Try That in a Small Town.”

“I remember when we put this song out, people like Charlie Kirk were some of the first people to come up and go, ‘That’s what it’s about. This country coming together, calling out the bull-[expletive] when we see it, trying to get everything back on track,'” Aldean recalled. “This guy wanted nothing more than what was best for all of us, and for our kids moving forward.”

“Charlie is a guy that’s going to be very, very much missed, and this is something that his legacy is going to live on forever with Turning Point [USA] and what he’s done with only 31 years on this planet,” Aldean concluded. “It’s amazing.”

Kirk ‘Was A Man Of Peace…’

Immediately after Kirk’s death, Aldean took to Instagram to pay tribute to him. He did so in an emotional caption posted alongside a photo of himself and his wife Brittany, 37, with Kirk.

“It’s been a hard day not only in our family, but all over the country,” Aldean wrote. “Charlie Kirk was one of the kindest, smartest and bravest people I’ve ever met. I’m honored to have met and spoke with him on a few occasions. He was a man of peace and wanted nothing but the best for our country and its youth.”

“We might have lost Charlie today but what he has done will live on forever,” he continued. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, kids and the entire Kirk family.”

Kirk’s History

Kirk was only 18 years-old when he founded Turning Point USA back in 2012. This is a conservative organization that is popular on college campuses around the country. Kirk was known for playing a huge role in mobilizing young voters to vote for Donald Trump in last year’s presidential election.

“One of the reasons why we got Trump is Charlie Kirk,” Kelly said after Kirk’s death. “We all play our part in some small way, but there is no denying the effect Charlie Kirk had on this election.”

Trump took to Truth Social to honor Kirk immediately after his death was announced.

“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump wrote. “He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

What happened to Kirk is nothing short of horrifying, and should be universally condemned regardless of politics. We applaud Aldean for taking the time to honor Kirk’s memory when so many of his fellow celebrities are staying silent.

Kirk is survived by his wife Erika and by their two young children. Please join us in saying a prayer for them.

Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk.
