Shocking footage circulating online shows Egyptian national team coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan arguing with a Dallas police officer, with the exchange quickly escalating into a brief physical confrontation just hours before Egypt’s World Cup Round of 32 match against Australia.

The incident unfolded at the Egyptian team’s hotel in Dallas, Texas.

According to Dallas police, officers responded to a report from hotel security about an individual attempting to access a restricted area without proper event credentials.

Police stated that those involved were not properly displaying their credentials, a requirement for access. They later met with Egyptian representatives to address concerns.

Egyptian officials, however, offered a different version of events.

The team’s media office said the confrontation began after player Mahmoud Hassan ‘Trezeguet’ stopped to take a photograph with a young fan, as reported by Latestly.

According to Egyptian representatives, the officer intervened aggressively, allegedly pushing both the fan and members of the Egyptian delegation, prompting Ibrahim Hassan to object to the officer’s conduct.

Video shared across social media showed Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan engaged in a heated exchange with a Dallas police officer that escalated into a brief physical confrontation.

Despite the conflicting accounts, Coach Hossam Hassan moved quickly to downplay the episode. He stated that the team considers the matter resolved after accepting an apology from police.

Hassan also praised the tournament’s overall organization and security arrangements.

The dust-up did not derail the Egyptians on the pitch. Egypt defeated Australia and advanced to the Round of 16, the country’s first-ever appearance in the World Cup knockout stage.
