UFC fighter Justin Gaethje dropped a patriotic line on Sunday night after winning the main event at UFC Freedom 250 before giving an outstanding tribute to American military and first responders.
Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria in the fourth round of a historic upset on Sunday at the White House UFC Freedom 250, making him the undisputed UFC lightweight champion.
Per ESPN, “The previously undefeated Topuria, 29, has been on a generational roll of late, knocking out former champions Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira in consecutive fights to win world titles at featherweight and lightweight before heading to the nation’s capital in an attempt to become the first UFC fighter to defend world titles in two weight classes. But he had never been in a back-and-forth battle as he was with Gaethje, who has made a career out of exhilarating brawls.”
“I told myself I was going to lose, and I told myself I was going to get embarrassed, so that I can go to my most primal place and dig deep,” Gaethje said, according to ESPN. “That guy had me in trouble. He had me rocked, smoked my liver, and I still stuck in it.”
Gaethje responded to the odds of winning the fight, telling Joe Rogan in his Octagon interview, “Hey, I’m from America. 250 years ago we were way bigger than 6-1 dogs, and look at us thriving now!”
He went on to thank “all the current, former, and future military service members,” as well as first responders, declaring “for as long as I’m able to, I will use my name to make money and support you guys first and foremost!”
“All glory to God. I’ve prayed so much for this opportunity to do something legendary, and I know that was absolutely legendary because I cannot even believe it,” he added.

Rogan: You have been waiting for this moment your entire career, and to win it in such a spectacular fashion, in a fight where you were at some points a six to one underdog, how good does this feel?
Gaethje: Hey, I’m from America. 250 years ago we were way bigger than 6-1 dogs, and look at us thriving now! To all the current, former, and future military service members, thank you so much! Thank you so much to all the first responders, the police officers, firefighters, ambulance, EMTs, you guys have no idea how grateful I am. And for as long as I’m able to, I will use my name to make money and support you guys first and foremost! Thank you.
And all glory to God. I’ve prayed so much for this opportunity to do something legendary, and I know that was absolutely legendary because I cannot even believe it. Wow!
When Trump and the First Lady were doing a meet and greet with the fighters, Gaethje introduced his mother to the Trumps after telling Melania Trump, “My mom loves you. She’s your biggest fan.”
