President Trump told French President Emmanuel Macron and reporters on Monday that he plans to refocus his energy on the war in Russia and Ukraine now that a deal with Iran has been finalized.

As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, Trump confirmed during the meeting that the memorandum of understanding to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz is “all signed.” An official ceremony will be held on Friday in Switzerland with Vice President JD Vance leading the US delegation.

Meanwhile, as back-and-forth attacks have continued between Ukraine and Russia, Trump spoke via phone to both leaders, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, on Sunday.

However, late on Sunday, Russia launched missiles at Kyiv, striking the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the oldest Orthodox Christian monastery in Ukraine.

“The Russians launched more than 60 missiles at the capital alone. In total, 70 missiles and 611 drones were used against Ukraine. As of now, 28 people have been reported injured and four killed in the capital,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement.

Still, Trump said, “We had a very good conversation yesterday with President Zelensky and President Putin, and I see maybe we can do something there. I really do. I think they’re both open to it.”

“Now that this is finished,” he continued, “we’re going to be focusing on that, see if we can get that one done.”

Trump: We’ve done a great job, and hopefully it’s going to be a good relationship and we’re going to get along, and if we don’t, we go back to where we started, but I don’t think it’s going to be necessary. The Iran deal that we made is going to bring a lot of, a lot of success to the world, because the oil was really clogged up there for a while. He would call me on occasion, say, “Come on, please, let’s go.” The oil prices, but the oil is coming way down. So, I’m very honored by it.

I want to thank you for your help. You’ve always been a help, and it’s an honor to be with you. We had a very good conversation yesterday with President Zelensky and President Putin, and I see maybe we can do something there. I really do. I think they’re both open to it.

So, now that this is finished, we’re going to be focusing on that, see if we can get that one done. 25000 people a month are dying, mostly soldiers, and that shouldn’t happen, but had two very good conversations yesterday. We’ll be talking about it.

Earlier this month, Zelensky called for face-to-face negotiations with Putin in a letter sent to the Russian President.

Trump responded to Zelensky’s request, saying, “I think it would be great if they met” and calling on them to “get it done.” Trump further suggested that both countries will make “certain compromises” at his request.

Still, the House of Representatives recently passed legislation, approving an additional $9 billion in aid to Ukraine and placing harsh sanctions on Russia, with 18 Republicans voting in favor.
