A federal judge appointed by Barack Obama is facing calls for impeachment after an investigation found she engaged in sexual activity with a high-ranking Atlanta police officer inside her courthouse chambers during business hours, loud enough for her law clerks to hear through the walls on multiple occasions.

U.S. District Judge Eleanor L. Ross of the Northern District of Georgia has been accused of carrying on an extramarital affair with Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Kelley Collier.

According to a judicial misconduct investigation by the 11th Circuit, the two engaged in “intimate contact,” including sexual intercourse, in her chambers during work hours on several occasions over roughly a two-year period.

Clerks reported hearing “unsettling noises,” kissing sounds, and music coming from the judge’s chambers.

The investigation described the workplace environment as “extremely uncomfortable and troubling” for staff.

Evidence collected during the probe reportedly included security logs, video footage, and even a stained couch cushion from her chambers that was sent for forensic testing.

Judge Ross initially denied the allegations when questioned by Chief Judge William Pryor and other judicial officials.

She later admitted to the relationship.

The investigation also found that she attended a partisan political event, which violated judicial conduct rules.

Ross was issued a private reprimand by the 11th Circuit Judicial Council, a punishment many have called far too lenient. She was also required to send apology letters to her former law clerks.

According to a report from Breitbart News, the judge wrote, in part, “My actions were patently wrong, and there is no excuse. I am writing to you for a second time to convey my deepest apologies for my harmful, offensive, and unprofessional behavior that made your clerkship an unpleasant experience.”

Two Republican members of Congress from Georgia, Rep. Clay Fuller and Rep. Andrew Clyde, have introduced articles of impeachment against Judge Ross.

Rep. Fuller said in a statement posted to X, “There are far too many rogue judges in our federal judiciary who need to be held accountable. I am proud to file an Article of Impeachment against one of these rogue judges, Eleanor Ross, for engaging in an extramarital affair in her chambers within earshot of her clerks. And then LYING about it.”

Rep. Clyde added in a press release, “When judges become political activists or engage in judicial misconduct, Congress bears both the responsibility and the constitutional authority to hold them accountable.”

“Judge Ross’ deeply disturbing actions prove she is incapable of displaying integrity or showing impartiality. She’s simply unfit to remain a U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Georgia, which is why I’m leading the charge to impeach Judge Ross and ultimately remove her from the bench.”
