Crowd celebrating in the streets with fireworks, dancing on vehicles, and gathering around a bus stop at night.
The New York Knicks captured their first NBA championship in 53 years on Saturday, defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the Finals.

What should have been a night of pure celebration quickly descended into widespread chaos across Manhattan.

As fans poured into the streets, groups of rioters engaged in vandalism, destruction, and direct attacks on police.

Reporter Nick Sortor, who was on the ground for the chaos, documented the unfolding mayhem on X in real time.

Before the final buzzer had even happened, rioters began smashing cars and damaging property.

One video captured rioters destroying NYPD vehicles while the game was still wrapping up.

In Times Square, thousands of rioters overtook buses and drivers began abandoning their vehicles.

NYPD riot police officers were seen sprinting down streets, tackling suspects, and making rapid arrests amid the chaos.

There were also attacks on NYPD mounted police.

Rioters launched fireworks at police horses, causing the animals to become spooked and bolt.

The horses are trained officers, and the attacks constitute assault on law enforcement.

These scenes echoed earlier riots during the Knicks’ playoff and Finals run.

After previous wins, including Game 4, dozens were arrested, with reports of fights, property damage, and injuries to officers.

Soft-on-crime policies, reduced prosecutions, and resistance to strong policing have emboldened bad actors in these liberal cities.
