Kallas’ tenure as EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs is a train wreck.

Kaja Kallas, the EU’s top diplomat, is facing growing criticism for her perceived incompetence and aggressive diplomatic style – often described as acting like a national prime minister rather than a consensus-building diplomat.

She is rightfully as ‘overly hawkish’ on Russia, obsessing over Moscow at the expense of other pressing global issues.

Her overgrown Russian hatred is even more troublesome because of the scandal of her husband’s business ties to Russia during the war.

More recently she has fielded calls for her replacement, notably from Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, who cited her as a liability in ongoing crises.

If all that wasn’t enough, now we have her privately telling EU lawmakers that the state of the world is such that ‘it might be a good moment to start drinking’.

Yes, it was a joke. But the problem is that it comes in the context where SHE is the joke.

Politico reported:

“Kallas told leaders of the political groups in the European Parliament that while she is not much of a drinker now may be the time to start given events around the globe, according to two people who were in the room.

[…] The EU’s top diplomat ― who coordinates the bloc’s foreign policy on behalf of the 27 governments and the European Commission ― cracked the joke in a meeting of the Conference of Presidents, a meeting of the Parliament’s group leaders. Her comments came after top MEPs started wishing each other a happy new year. The same MEPs added that global events meant it wasn’t that happy, according to people in the room.”
