Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is furious over Trump’s bombing of Venezuela and the arrest of the tyrannical narcotrafficker, Nicolas Maduro, demanding a briefing from the Trump Administration and plotting to restrict Trump’s power to execute military operations.

Schumer appeared on CSPAN on Saturday after Maduro was arrested by US forces and taken into custody on board the USS Iwo Jima, a move that Schumer described as “reckless” and “dangerous.”

“Let me be clear, Maduro is an illegitimate dictator, but launching military action without congressional authorization, without a credible plan, but what comes next, is reckless,” he said, noting that the Trump Administration did not clue Congress in on their plans.  He then claimed that the Democratic caucus is “very, very just totally, totally, totally troubled, worried about how dangerous this is.”

Schumer further claimed that he is holding the Trump Administration accountable, demanding a briefing for the entire Congress at the beginning of the week.

WATCH:

It was reckless, it was dangerous, and looking at the President’s demeanor, he didn’t even seem to be aware of how dangerous and reckless it is. Let me be clear, Maduro is an illegitimate dictator, but launching military action without congressional authorization, without a credible plan, but what comes next, is reckless. Now, I was in the skiff on three different occasions, as recently as December, and I asked the administration, I said, I asked them, Is the— are you pursuing regime change? Are you intent on taking military action in Venezuela, Venezuelan territory?

And they assured me that they were not pursuing those things. Clearly, they’re not being straight with the American people. So, I’ve been talking to so many members of my caucus today. Everybody is very, very just totally, totally, totally troubled, worried about how dangerous this is. Let me lay out just a few of the actions that have already been taken to hold the Trump administration accountable. First, leader Jeffries and I called on the Trump administration to brief the Gang of Eight immediately, followed shortly by a briefing for the entire Congress in the beginning of next week.

On Sunday, Schumer revealed during an appearance on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos that he plans to introduce a War Powers Act resolution with Tim Kaine and Rand Paul to completely block the President from further action in Venezuela.

WATCH:

We have the War Powers Act, that’s a privileged resolution, which means the Republicans can’t block it. Tim Kaine and I and Rand Paul are sponsors of it. It’s going to come to the floor this week, and if it is voted for, if it’s voted positively in both Houses, then the President can’t do another thing in Venezuela without the OK of Congress.

As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a thorough explanation of why Congressional approval is not necessary for the operation that was executed on Saturday.

“This is not an operation that requires congressional approval,” Rubio told NBC’s Kristen Welker. “In fact, this is an operation akin to what virtually every single president for the last 40 years has conducted. The difference is that when it’s Donald Trump, you know, all these Democrats go bonkers.”

President Trump and Rubio also addressed the issue during a press conference on Saturday, noting that notifying Congress would have put the mission at risk. “Congress will leak, and we don’t want leakers,” Trump said.
