Border czar Tom Homan didn’t blink Wednesday when CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil tried to moralize President Trump’s immigration enforcement with a loaded question: “Where’s the heart?”
The clash occurred during an extended interview when Dokoupil attempted to corner Homan with a “gotcha” question about President Trump’s mass deportation policy.
Quoting a statement Trump made to The Wall Street Journal in October 2024, where the then-candidate said “we have to have a heart,” Dokoupil tried to suggest the administration’s enforcement efforts were cruel.
“Where’s the heart in this?” Dokoupil pressed, insinuating that enforcing the law and securing the border was somehow lacking in compassion. “Where’s the heart in the last year of operations?”
Homan didn’t flinch. He immediately turned the tables, reminding the anchor and the American people that true compassion isn’t about ignoring the law; it’s about saving lives.
Homan launched into a passionate defense of ICE agents and the Trump administration’s record, schooling the CBS host on the real-world consequences of open borders versus secure ones.
“ICE is doing everything it can to enforce the laws enacted by Congress,” Homan fired back. “ICE agents… are mothers and fathers, too. They don’t hang their heart on a hook every day they come to work.”
Homan then dropped the hammer, outlining exactly how the Trump administration’s strict policies are saving thousands of lives and crushing human trafficking rings that flourished under the previous open-border policies.
“Because of the actions of President Trump, thousands of lives are being saved every month. 96% fewer people are coming because they know there’s consequences now… Sex trafficking has plummeted.”
But Homan wasn’t done. He brought up the most devastating statistic of all, the hundreds of thousands of missing children lost by the Biden-Harris regime.
“People want to talk about where the heart is? The Trump administration has already found over 129,000 children that the last administration lost track of and wasn’t even looking for. We’re not going to stop till we find every one of these 300,000 missing children.”
Homan detailed the horrors many of these children faced—forced labor, sex slavery, and trafficking—because the previous administration failed to vet sponsors, releasing children to fake addresses like parking lots and supermarkets.
“That’s the heart,” Homan declared. “The heart is a secure border saved lives. The heart is less sex trafficking is occurring. The heart is we’re finding missing children.”
Faced with Homan’s relentless facts, Dokoupil was forced to concede the popularity of Trump’s mandate.
“Mr. Homan, everything you’re describing is the reason why mass deportations and the removal of criminals was a popular issue in the election,” Dokoupil admitted. “People elected Donald Trump to enact that. That is all true.”
Homan then confronted Dokoupil for insinuating that the administration lacks compassion, a claim Dokoupil quickly denied, insisting, “I did not make that statement.”
Homan cut him off with a sharp reminder: “You said, ‘Where’s the heart?’… I’m telling you where the heart is.”
