Not a happy new year in Switzerland.
The New Year’s Eve celebration in the luxurious Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland turned into a major tragedy after an explosion at a bar killed dozens (some reports say over 40) and injured over a hundred people.
Over 100 people were celebrating the arrival of 2026 inside the Le Constellation bar when a blast caused a fire at around 1.30am on Thursday.

The Telegraph reported:
“Swiss police said at least 100 people were injured in the blast and the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
[…] It’s not clear where the fire started but Swiss media reported that the explosion occurred in the basement of the bar and a fire broke out on the ground floor.”

Victims may have been trapped inside the bar with few emergency exits.
Swiss police still do not how many people have been killed.
“The Swiss public prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident as arson. A terror attack is currently being ruled out.
A source in the emergency services described the incident as a ‘major catastrophe’, with local outlet Blick claiming that pyrotechnics could have been involved, citing ‘unconfirmed reports’.”
