A deranged psychopath carried out a crime straight from a horror movie in Democrat-run Scranton, Pennsylvania earlier this week.

As People Magazine reported, The Scranton Police Department revealed that two innocent women and a service dog were killed during a machete attack on the sixth floor of the Hotel Jermyn Apartments on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

A third victim suffered serious injuries. Police said her hand was almost completely severed from her arm, and she suffered from a severe chest wound.

“Callers reported screams, visible blood, with one caller identifying herself as a victim. Many patrol officers arrived very quickly,” Police Chief Thomas Carroll said during a press conference regarding the attack.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher said at the press conference that police arrived at “pure evil” once they reached the scene.

He added that most of the crime was captured on video surveillance.

“This was a gruesome, reprehensible, and senseless act of violence where three women and a service dog were attacked in the hallway of the sixth floor of their apartment building,” he said. “The vast majority of this incident, the vast majority, is all on video surveillance, and it is horrific to watch.”

Gallagher added that the deceased victims are a 61-year-old woman and a 59-year-old woman. The injured victim is a 66-year-old woman.

Police arrested 38-year-old Michael Woods as he attempted to flee the scene. WNEP reported he was wearing blood-stained clothing and holding a machete covered in blood.

Woods claimed that he smoked a hallucinogenic drug before carrying out the act. Authorities have not confirmed Woods’ claim, however.

That’s under current investigation, we don’t know that right now,” Gallagher said. “We’ll have some answers as we move forward for you, but I don’t want to speculate as to any type of drug or mental health defense or anything like that.”

Woods’ motive for the attack also remains unknown, according to Gallagher.

People Magazine reported that Woods has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of attempted criminal homicide, and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Woods is being held without bail in the Lackawanna County Prison. A preliminary hearing for him is scheduled on December 23.
