New York Democrats did very well in the recent November elections in all areas of the state but one. In Nassau County, which is in Western Long Island, Republicans wiped out the Dems. Apparently, that part of the state has been red-pilled.
The Democrats who lost there are blaming New York City Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani and his radical far-left politics for their loss.
Democrats can complain all they want but in terms of the radical element in their party, there’s not much they can do. That train left the station a long time ago.
From Politico:
Bellwether suburban county’s red shift is now at the center of both parties’ future identities in New York
The statewide blue wave in which New York Democrats made big gains in nearly every corner of the state this November had one glaring exception: Nassau County.
While Empire State Democrats scored one of their best election nights on record, Republicans held down America’s archetypal suburb, with GOP candidates notching an 11-0 record in contested executive branch races in Nassau. In the marquee race, County Executive Bruce Blakeman improved on his 2021 performance after four years of wholeheartedly embracing President Donald Trump…
“While Democrats made gains nationwide on election night, the Republican party shined bright on Long Island,” the narrator of his launch video said. “Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman won a Democrat County by 12 percent.”…
“Most of the television commercials that they put up were all about ‘Mamdani, Mamdani, democratic socialists,’” Nassau Democratic Chair Jay Jacobs said. “Their tagline was, in effect, ‘Vote Republican and save Nassau County from becoming a socialist county.’ That plays well with a moderate audience.”
More from FOX News:
Jacobs concluded, “The Republicans have gone to great expense, particularly in Nassau County, using their standard election playbook inciting fear and anger, to demonize Mr. Mamdani and to try, unfairly, to associate every moderate Democratic candidate with his brand of politics. For moderates running in places that will ONLY elect moderates, it should not only be acceptable for them to identify the policies of Mr. Mamdani that they disagree with; it is incumbent upon them to do so. Those within the Party that are critical of that necessity, I would suggest, are more interested in enforcing ideological purity than they are in electing more Democrats and achieving a majority in the House while fighting to stop the Trump Administration’s devastating agenda.”
Democrats had better hope that Mamdani is a success and not the train wreck that so many people are expecting. If he is a disaster, it will be hung around their party’s neck for years to come.
