Students finally evacuated from Brown University at 8:45 pm ET.

Update: Two people are dead and at least 8 are injured in the mass shooting, according to NBC News.

Eight are in critical but stable condition.

There is a shelter-in-place directive for the greater Brown University area.

The shooter, who is still at large, was described as a “male dressed in all black.”

Update: After initially claiming a suspect was taken into custody, it is now being reported that the shooter is still at large.

Multiple people have been shot at Brown University in Rhode Island on the second day of final exams.

Multiple people are injured.

President Trump said he has been briefed on the shooting.

“I have been briefed on the shooting that took place at Brown University in Rhode Island. The FBI is on the scene. The suspect is in custody. God bless the victims and the families of the victims!” Trump said on Saturday afternoon.

President Trump clarified that the suspect is NOT in custody as of 6:05 PM ET.

“What a terrible thing it is. All we can do right now is pray for the victims and for those that were very badly hurt,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Saturday evening.

“It’s a shame. It’s a shame,” Trump said.

Rhode Island authorities are responding after Brown University reported an active shooter on campus Saturday afternoon.

In a voicemail to students, school officials said there was an active shooter near the Barus and Holley engineering building.

An alert text message sent to students said to “lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice.”

“Remember: RUN, if you are in the affected location, evacuate safely if you can; HIDE, if evacuation is not possible, take cover; FIGHT, as a last resort, take action to protect yourself,” school officials wrote in the alert. “Stay tuned for further safety information.”
