Judge Arun Subramanian sentences Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to 50 months in prison.

So, we’ve finally come to the climax of the long-running, high-profile criminal trial of disgraced rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

While Diddy was acquitted of the most serious charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering that could carry up to life in prison, he was still convicted on prostitution charges that could potentially see him serving up to 20 years’ time.

The defense wanted him sentenced to ‘time served’ and walking out of prison soon after sentencing.

The Probation Service recommendation was from 60 to 87 months in prison.

The prosecution was asking for 135 months: over 11 years.

Diddy’s lawyer Steel says he is a ‘civil rights leader’.

For Diddy, five lawyers spoke: Jason Driscoll, Brian Steel, Nicole Westmoreland, Xavier Donaldson and Marc Agnifilo.

The prosecutors’ team had one less figure, as Maurene Comey fell in disgrace with Trump’s DOJ even before her former FBI chief father James was indicted.

AUSA Christy Slavik complained that victim ‘Mia’ was no longer going to address the court due to bullying by defense – and the Judge agreed.

She defended the prosecution’s at least 135 months

AUSA Slavik: ‘The defendant tries to argue this is just a sex, drugs & rock n’ roll lifestyle. But this is a case about transportation for prostitution AND violence. The defendant admitted to the violence at trial. The defendant’s respect for the law is lip service’.”

Slavik further stated that Mr. Combs booked speaking engagements for Miami for next week. ‘That is the height of hubris’.

Diddy kicks Cassie Ventura on the floow as she tried to flee a ‘freak-off’ sex marathon.

Next the defense lawyers spoke.

Jason Driscoll talked about sentencing in similar cases, pointing out that Diddy made no money out of it.

Nicole Westmore sobbed as she described the rapper as ‘an inspiration’.

The defendant’s children approached and a 12-minute video was shown.

Attorney Brian steel also came with teary eyes to talk about Diddy’s hard upbringing and difficult conditions in prison – adding that ‘he will never be a danger. He is a civil rights leader’.

Then there was Reverend Doctor Johnson: ‘I’ll be personally responsible for seeing him rehabilitated. I close with this. As Michael Jordan said, these sneakers are just sneakers. But when my son put them on… Sean needs an opportunity’.

A last-second addition to the list of speakers saw Mr. Giovanni Sairras, executive director of Re-entry One arguing that Diddy’s event in a week was not a speaking engagement, but rather a ‘healing’.

The judge gave Sairras one minute to speak, which corroborated the feeling that Diddy’s lawyers were overdoing it.

Diddy: PTSD is to blame?

While this was ongoing, the New York Post reminded us:

“Earlier today, Judge Arun Subramanian hinted at how much prison time he’ll give Sean “Diddy” Combs on the two prostitution convictions.

The judge said he’s calculated a sentencing range from 70 to 87 months. That’s a window of a little less than six years up to a little more than seven.”

Lead attorney Marc Agnifilo also spoke. He argued Diddy was revealed to have PTSD and other disorders.

Combs’ Agnifilo: “I am asking you to release him today. He has been punished, publicly. Everyone knows every twist and turn in this case. This is also a form of general deterrence. The publicity that he got. Ms. Ventura’s lawsuit, it destroyed his businesses. We are proposing mental health treatment, a domestic violence program. Sometimes group programs are the best. October is domestic violence awareness month. I’m not asking for a light sentence. I’m asking for mental health, the root problem.”

AUSA Slavik spoke again, trying to show precedents for the request for a sentence of 135 months in prison, and said that “Diddy is a ‘master puppeteer of his own image,’ not ‘a changed man’.”

Diddy: ‘master puppeteer of his own image,’ or ‘a changed man’?

Tensions were running high, as two people were arrested outside the courtroom during the sentencing: a man and a woman (agitators or social media influencers), verbally abusing cops all day.

So, the last one to speak was Sean Diddy Combs himself.

Sean Diddy Combs said that he is very sorry and doesn’t take lightly his actions.

He apologized to Cassie Ventura, ‘Jane’, and their families.

He said he was sick ‘from the drugs’.

He sobbed, said he was trying his best, having lost freedom to be with family, and also his businesses.

Sean Combs: “I hate myself right now. I’ve been stripped down to nothing. I want to apologize to my seven children… I’m so sorry. You deserve better. To my mother, I feel… you taught me better. […] I can’t change the past but I can change the future. I beg your Honor for mercy, to be a father again, to be a son again, a leader in my community again. To get the help I need.

‘I can’t change the past but I can change the future.’

AND SO FINALLY, IT WAS TIME FOR JUDGE ARUN SUBRAMANIAN TO DECIDE.

Judge Subramanian said Diddy was not being sentenced for acquitted conduct, but there were many things to consider.

Judge Subramanian: “A history of good works can’t wash away the record in this case. You abused these women. You used that abuse to get your way, freak offs and hotel nights. The evidence of the abuse is massive. I was sitting right here, during the testimony.”

The magistrate said Diddy subjugated his victims, plied them with drugs, and was more than a John.

Despite the rapper’s assurance not to do it again, the judge reminded him that after Ventura’s civil lawsuit was filed and the investigation started, he still punched Jane in the head during a sex marathon.

‘The Court is not convinced this would not happen again’.

The judge considered that a sentence over 11 years asked by the prosecution was not reasonable. But that just 14 months, time served, as the defenses asked, would not be sufficient. Judge: Here, the data shows a wide variety of sentences. Weighing all the relevant factors, the Court determines that the sentences is 50 months of incarceration.”
