A U.S. company is recalling more than 19 million eggs, according to a notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration on July 22.

Midwest Poultry Services is recalling 1.5 million cartons each containing at least a dozen eggs “because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis,” the notice says.

The brown and white eggs were produced in Texas.

“Midwest Poultry Services identified the issue on its two Texas farms through proactive environmental monitoring practices and root cause analysis,” the company said. “Midwest Poultry Services is not distributing fresh eggs produced on its Texas farms at this time.”

Midwest Poultry Services did not respond to a request for more details on how it discerned that the eggs might be contaminated.

Infection with Salmonella bacteria can happen through multiple ways, including through contaminated food. Symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Outbreaks of the bacteria have been linked to a number of foods, including chicken, nut butters, and cucumbers.Related StoriesThe Epoch TimesThe Epoch Times
