The latest season of HGTV‘s Battle on the Beach sees three teams going head-to-head in Garden City, South Carolina to renovate the largest beachfront properties in the show’s history.

Although the series is airing now, the reality show is pre-recorded, and contestants Steven and Angelina have revealed the private battle they faced during filming.

The couple, who were on HGTV’s expert Sarah Baeumler’s team, revealed they were actually homeless when the show was shot.

Steven and Angelina, who share four kids, said they were sleeping on a relative’s couch while shooting the show, and using a U-Haul to store their family‘s things.

Speaking to local Connecticut news outlet The Hour, Angelina said: “We were driving back and forth to jobs.

“We didn’t tell nobody. …We kept it to ourselves and just kept on going, kept on saving the money,”

Angelina, who owns her own construction and renovation company called She Buildz Things, and Steven then had some luck when they won $3K in the first renovation challenge on the show.

Speaking on the show after they scooped the cash, an emotional Angelina said, “This win is very important because we’ve been going through our own situation, you know, from sleeping on other people’s couches.

“This money would literally help us be more comfortable.”

She then added: “We need to keep this winning momentum going.”

The couple, who have been married for 11 years, have since found an apartment in Waterbury. They moved into it with their family in May.

Angelina also opened up to The Hour about what her and Steven’s plans are for the future – and it appears they have caught the home renovation TV bug.

“I’ve explained to my producers and all the other producers to give us a call for any type of redemption shows or all-star shows or anything like that,” she revealed.

“Whatever I’m allowed to do and able to do, I’ll do. I’ll travel. I’ll go to Canada with Sarah. I’ll do it all.”
