THE Washington Commanders are officially returning to Washington DC.

A $3.8 billion plan is set to move forward to redevelop the site of the old RFK Stadium.

The deal appeared to be in jeopardy for some time, as President Donald Trump threatened to shut it down if the Commanders refused to change their name.

"I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original 'Washington Redskins,'" he said on Truth Social last month.

"If they don't get rid of the ridiculous moniker, 'Washington Commanders', I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington."

It seems that Trump decided not to block the stadium deal, as it passed in an 11-2 vote on Wednesday.

Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser negotiated the original deal with Commanders owner Josh Harris in April.

"It is with great pride that I can say we are officially bringing our Commanders home and turning 180 acres of land on the banks of the Anacostia, on the monumental axis, into jobs and opportunity for DC residents," she said in a statement.

"This will be the largest economic development project in DC history."

The venue is planned to open in 2030 on the site of RFK Stadium.

Before the vote was completed, Harris shared how excited he was for the plans to move forward.

"This is a historic moment," Commanders owner Josh Harris said.

"This project is about more than delivering a world-class stadium worthy of our players, fans, and the region.

"It’s about revitalizing a critical part of our city, creating thousands of jobs and unlocking long-term economic benefits for the District."

The Commanders are set to build a massive, domed stadium for dans alongside multiple other developments.

Fans of the team are thrilled to see it progress and shared their thoughts on social media.
