It was later revealed the reckless maneouver was part of a “Breakfast with the Blues event” put on by The Blue Angels.

The Blue Angels are an elite demonstration squadron known for its high-risk displays.

One beachgoer, Ashley Korn, said she had never seen anything like it.

“I’ve been coming for 10 years and I’ve never seen a pass like that in my life,” she said.

“I literally thought we were going to be taken out by Blue Angels, but it was amazing.”

Another flabbergasted viewer, Samantha Mayne, said: “All of our tents got knocked down. It was worth it. It was awesome.”

In the aftermath, the Navy said it was investigating the incident and would be conducting a thorough safety review.

A statement read: “During an arrival manoeuvre, an aircraft flew lower than standard profiles, resulting in a disturbance on the beach that affected civilian chairs and umbrellas.”

Demonstration jets generally maintain a minimum height of 500ft above the ground, but can fly as low as 50ft for specific manoeuvres.

A spokesman for the Blue Angels said: “The safety of our hometown community, spectators, and our pilots is our highest priority.

“Team leadership is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the manoeuvre and conducting a thorough safety review to ensure all operations adhere to strict Navy and FAA safety standards.”

The Blue Angels operate out of Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida.
