“If tRump [sic], Vance, or Musk ever come to my city again, they will leave it in a body bag,” Vance Jr. wrote in one online post, federal prosecutors said.
The message continued, “I will either be shot by a secret service sniper or spend the rest of my life in prison. I’ve only got about 10 years left anyway so I don’t f**king care either way.”
Federal prosecutors said Vance Jr.’s menacing online threats began in early 2025, when he began posting on the social media platform Bluesky from the username “Diaperjdv.”
On March 7, investigators said Vance Jr. shared a post titled, “Donald Trump Jr. Considering a Run for President in 2028.”

In the post, he wrote, “I will murder that stupid f**ker before he gets secret service protection.”
US Attorney Timothy VerHey urged the judge to take the defendant’s threats seriously.
“The advent of the internet gives us all an opportunity to engage in the healthy exchange of ideas that are so important to a democracy,” VerHey argued.
“But some would rather use this tool to threaten and intimidate, conduct that causes fear and damages our democratic ideals.

“When Vance said he planned to kill our President and Vice President simply because he disagreed with them, he crossed a line we all understand and so had to be punished.”
Judge Paul Maloney scolded Vance Jr.’s actions as “grievous conduct” and imposed the sentence to “deter others from making similar threats.”
Vance Jr. pleaded guilty to two felony counts and was fined $250,000.
The sentencing was the second time over the past month that a defendant in Michigan’s western district was handed a prison sentence for making threats against Trump.
On October 20, Richard James Spring was sentenced to 18 months for threatening to kill the president.
In late January, Spring wrote on an X post that he would sexually assault someone in front of Trump and the shoot him in the head, according to prosecutors.
Federal prosecutors said Spring made similar threats on his TikTok account.
“Threats against our nation’s leaders and their families will not be tolerated,” William Shink, special agent in charge of the US Secret Service’s Detroit Field Office, said.
“Individuals who threaten the President, Vice President, or any U.S. Secret Service protectee will be investigated and held accountable for their actions.”
