Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin kicks a 65 yard FG, the longest FG outdoors in NFL history. [NFL record is 66 yards by Justin Tucker kicked inside Ford Field, Detroit] : r/sports
I think that this is awesome and I’m not sure why it seems like there is a concern about kickers being able to hit these long field goals. I like the element it brings to the games especially with nfl game scores ending in only a few point spread. In my opinion I’d rather see kickers hitting long distance field goals than constantly punting, just like we have so many head coaches going for it in 4th down now. It use to be so borning knowing that if they didn’t make it to a first down and feild goal was out of the question it was punt and go to defense, which could then lead to the next team just punting right back. There’s been many games where it was just punting back and fourth for 2-3 drives by both teams. The game has evolved and people are suggesting a smaller goal post, what’s next we increase the size of the feild 20 yards? Just let them keep hitting these 60+ yard feild goals it’s awesome. All that said we now have more blocked feild goals than ever, turn over on downs brings a huge energy to the game for other teams, and it’s just making the nfl games that much more unpredictable with so many options on 4th down vs a few years ago where it was always punt and okay defense if you didn’t get the first down.
