Trump releases health policy outline

Trump tasked Congress with passing his proposal into law after months of failed negotiations to address the expired Affordable Care Act enhanced tax credits.
The plan calls for aspects of what Republicans in Congress have already been advocating for, but other items are likely to see pushback on the Hill.
The president called for Congress to codify his most favored nation drug pricing policy, which would require drug makers to reduce prices in the U.S. to the lowest list price in the rest of the world.
It also calls for Congress to direct payments to Health Savings Accounts instead of insurance companies, and to fund the cost-sharing reduction program within the Affordable Care Act in hopes of reducing premiums.
Insurance companies and medical providers are both called on to increase their price transparency. The White House outline would require insurers to publish rate and coverage comparisons on their websites in “plain English — not industry jargon,” along with disclosing how much of their revenues go toward medical claims versus company profit.
It also calls on hospitals and doctors offices who accept Medicare or Medicaid to post their costs.
