An Oklahoma woman lost all four of her limbs after she was brutally attacked by a pit bull on Sept. 9, according to FOX 23.

Janelle Scott was on her way to visit a friend when she was attacked by the dog, her mother Cheryl Scott told FOX 23. According to the Okmulgee Police, two dogs were being watched by a friend of their owner, who is in jail. Janelle’s boyfriend was also attacked by one of the dogs, and he killed the dog in self-defense, FOX 23 reported.

Cheryl recounted the attack, which claimed all four of her daughter’s limbs, to FOX 23.

“Where the friend lives, you have to go through a wooded area to get up there. I guess he lives in a camper or something. So she was going up that way when the dogs came out and attacked her, and she knew the dogs and they knew her,” she said.

“After seeing her arm after the attack, she knew she was going to lose her right arm because she said when she looked down, she could see the bone, and it was just barely hanging on by tendons and stuff, so she knew she was going to lose that,” Cheryl said.

Janelle initially had surgery to remove her arm and leg, News 9 reported. Doctors said Janelle might require other surgeries at the time, according to the outlet.

Janelle has now lost all four of her limbs, and she was scheduled to have more surgeries this week, News 9 reported on Sept. 22. Okmulgee Police said one of the dogs was definitely involved in the attack and was killed by Janelle’s boyfriend.

A second dog was on the scene, but police haven’t found any evidence the dog was involved in the attack, and the dog is still alive, according to News 9.

Okmulgee Police confirmed the attack occurred on Sept. 9 at 10:57 p.m.

“Officers arrived in the area and could hear someone yelling from a wooded area nearby this location. Officers made their way down a trail into the wooded area and discovered a female suffering from significant and severe injuries. Officers immediately began to provide emergency field care to the victim and requested an ambulance to the location,” police said in part, according to News 9.

A GoFundMe fundraiser set up to cover Janelle’s medical bills has raised over $20,000 as of publication.
