Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday pinned blame on President Trump following the most recent reports of massive fraud in his state.

The governor fell under renewed scrutiny late last week after YouTuber and independent journalist Nick Shirley posted a video documenting multiple alleged inactive daycares in Minnesota. One of the daycares has received $4 million in state funds, according to the video.

In his first social media post addressing the latest allegations, Gov. Walz defended his administration’s response to fraud and accused Trump of hindering that effort.

“We’ve spent years cracking down on fraud – referring cases to law enforcement, shutting down and auditing high-risk programs. Trump keeps letting fraudsters out of prison,” the governor wrote on X.

“My message remains clear: If you threaten everything that makes our state a great place to live by committing fraud in Minnesota, you will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he added.

On Monday, multiple Republicans in the Minnesota House and Senate called on Gov. Walz to resign in the wake of the fraud allegations. A letter penned by the lawmakers argued the state needs “accountability, a reset, and new leadership” to get “back on the right track.”

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday investigative agents were in Minneapolis conducting a “massive operation” to identify fraud suspects. The agency vowed in a post to X to “root out this rampant fraud plaguing Minnesota.”
