President Donald Trump said Iran must choose between reaching a deal with the United States or facing further action, warning that Washington would “finish the job” if negotiations fail, according to Reuters.

“We knocked the hell out of Iran. They’re dying to settle,” Trump said during remarks, according to CBS News, adding that the United States had allowed time for Iran’s funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump said he believed Iran wanted to reach an agreement but warned that the opportunity for diplomacy would not remain open indefinitely, Reuters reported.

“We’re either going to make a deal or we’re going to finish the job. OK. And it won’t be tough to finish the job. I’d rather make a deal, because I don’t want to affect 91 million people,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, according to a Reuters report.

The comments came as U.S.-Iran negotiations were paused during funeral ceremonies for Khamenei, who was killed during the conflict, with talks expected to resume after the mourning period, according to CBS News.

The Trump administration has said its primary objective remains preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and securing limits on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The diplomatic pause followed a major escalation between Washington and Tehran, with both sides facing pressure over whether to pursue a broader agreement or risk renewed hostilities.
