President Donald Trump on Wednesday complained that the media had not paid close attention to the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which he asserted was working to effectively shut down Iranian trade amid the war.

Trump ordered the blockade in response to Iran’s interception of commercial vessels in the critical waterway. Though the U.S. has largely destroyed Iran’s conventional navy, Tehran’s forces are still able to harass commercial vessels with smaller boats and projectiles from the shore.

“The Fake News Media refuses to report how EFFECTIVE the U.S. Naval BLOCKADE is, the most successful Blockade in the history of Naval Warfare,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “NOTHING GETS THROUGH unless we want it to. IT IS A STEEL WALL! Iran is doing ZERO business, not paying their military, or any of their bills, and quickly becoming a FAILED NATION! Lots of oil is getting out. Praise be to Allah!”

His comments come in the wake of Iran shooting down a U.S. Apache helicopter and an American response. A nominal ceasefire has dragged on for weeks without a formal peace deal. Intermittent volleys between Iran, Israel, Lebanon, and the U.S., moreover, have rendered the ceasefire largely a diplomatic formality.

As negotiations stall, moreover, tensions have erupted between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu over the substance of a peace deal.
