Trump Calls for ‘Generational’ Military Investment, Voter ID Requirement

President Donald Trump is pressing congressional Republicans to enact a historic investment in America’s military and economy and pass a voter ID requirement.
In a Truth Social post late Wednesday, Trump called on lawmakers to pass “IMMEDIATELY” a proposed $350 billion reconciliation package—dubbed “Recon 3.0”—that he says is essential to rebuilding U.S. defense capabilities and securingthe nation’s future. Reconciliation is a Senate procedure reserved for budget-related measures by which the chamber can pass them with a simple majority vote, as opposed to the normal requirement of 60 votes to end debate on a bill.
“No games, no delays, and no weak compromises,” Trump wrote, framing the legislation as a defining moment for national security and American leadership.
At the heart of Trump’s proposal is an effort to push total defense spending toward $1.5 trillion, which the president has described as necessary to create what he calls an “arsenal of freedom.” The additional funding, he argues, would accelerate major initiatives, including next-generation aircraft like the F-47 and B-21, expanded ammunition production, and increased investments in drone warfare and the Space Force.
Trump also highlighted ambitious projects such as the “Golden Dome” missile defense system and a “Golden Fleet” naval expansion, presenting them as key pillars of a broader strategy to deter foreign adversaries and maintain U.S. dominance across land, sea, air, and space.
