A Texas student asked her school board on Thursday to take legal action against a new state law requiring the Ten Commandments be displayed in all public school classrooms.

Senate Bill 10 was signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott earlier this year and is set to go into effect in September. The legislation has already become the subject of lawsuits arguing it is an unconstitutional violation of separation of church and state.

Chloe Hedrick, who told the Keller ISD Board of Trustees she is queer and Christian, claimed Thursday displaying the Ten Commandments will “make life harder” for LGBT students in particular.

“By enforcing your political and religious beliefs on students who are neither Christian nor fit your conservative mold of what a student should be, I ask, how far are you willing to further this agenda?” Hedrick asked. “Will you ban the religious practices of non-Christian students altogether?”
