The Senate failed to advance a war powers resolution on the Iran conflict, with 49 senators voting against it and 47 voting in favor.

The resolution aimed to force Trump to seek congressional approval for further military action within or against Iran.

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., joined Republicans to vote against the resolution. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, joined Democrats to vote in favor of it.

Republican Sens. Katie Britt of Alabama, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rand Paul of Kentucky missed the vote. The resolution needed a simple majority to pass.
