House Republicans Explore Reconciliation Path for SAVE America Act

Republicans are exploring whether provisions of the SAVE America Act can be moved through Congress via budget reconciliation, as Speaker Mike Johnson and other GOP leaders search for a path forward while Senate Democrats block advancement of the measure, according to The Hill.

Johnson said he has discussed the approach with President Donald Trump, including the possibility of attaching parts of the election-security legislation to a broader reconciliation package that could bypass a Senate filibuster and pass with a simple majority.

The move comes as the Senate has repeatedly failed to advance the SAVE America Act, with Democrats opposed and Republicans short of the 60 votes needed under standard Senate rules.

At the same time, Trump has been holding up action on a bipartisan housing package, declining to move forward on signing the measure as he presses lawmakers to prioritize passage of the election legislation.

The housing bill, which cleared Congress with bipartisan support, is aimed at expanding housing supply and easing affordability pressures through regulatory reforms and incentives for new construction.

Trump has framed the election-security bill as a top priority and has signaled he will not fully engage on other legislative priorities until progress is made on that front, adding pressure on congressional Republicans already navigating a divided Senate.
