Portland officer reassigned after comments on Minneapolis ICE shooting

A Portland, Oregon, police officer has been reassigned while an investigation into his comments over the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good takes place, city authorities said.
Portland Police Bureau Chief Robert Day confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY that the department was “made aware of” a video, which showed an unidentified officer saying “sometimes criminals get shot” in reference to Good, a 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot by immigration agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis on Jan. 7.
“The complaint is under review, and during that review, this officer has been assigned to other duties,” Day said.
Portland Mayor Keith Wilson described Good’s death as “tragic and preventable,” calling it a “horrific example of the same chaos and violence federal overreach has unleashed on Portland.”
The day after Good’s death, federal agents shot two people in Portland, which is among the handful of Democratic-led cities where President Donald Trump deployed National Guard troops in 2025.
