O'Hare issues ground stop

Travel has been paused at two airports – including the Midwest’s largest – as the nation’s aviation industry tries to get back on track following a historic government shutdown.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced Thursday afternoon that a ground stop has been declared at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport over volume issues.
It came as Skywest, Republic, United, Alaska, GoJet and several airlines were forced to cancel 44 flights in Chicago, Travel and Tour World reports.
As of 6pm EST, nine percent of outgoing flights were delayed and three percent were completely canceled in Chicago, according to FlightAware.
Five percent of incoming flights were also delayed.
The delays there primarily affected those heading to other airports in the Midwest, according to Travel and Tour World.
Daily Mail has reached out to airport officials for more information.
But the news comes as airlines expressed optimism they could resume normal operations at the country’s 40 busiest airports after the federal government lifted its order to cut some flights.
