New poll suggests Netanyahu still 'best suited' as next prime minister, and is likely to form new government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still considered “best suited” to serve as prime minister, according to a poll released on Thursday.
In slightly more than a 2-1 margin, 53.3% of respondents said that Netanyahu is the best fit to continue as prime minister, with Gadi Eisenkot, his closest challenger, at 26.5%, according to the Jerusalem News Syndicate (JNS).
Others named include Naftali Bennett at 10.9%, Avigdor Liberman with 2.1% and Benny Gantz with 1.8%. Bennett, until recently, had been considered Netanyahu’s main challenger.
The poll, which was conducted by Direct Polls, projects Netanyahu’s coalition in the Knesset, Israel’s legislative body, would hold a 63-57 majority over the opposition in the 120-seat body.
Netanyahu has served as Israel’s prime minister for roughly 19 years total, over three separate stretches in office, beginning with his first term in 1996. The next election is required to be held by the end of this coming October.
