Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that if Iran attacks Israel directly or indirectly, it would make for a “terrible mistake.”

“I should say it very, very clearly,” Netanyahu told Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo in a “Sunday Morning Futures” interview. “If Iran attacks Israel, either directly or through proxies, either with ballistic missiles or UAVs or killer drones, it will make a terrible mistake. Because our response, Israel’s response, will be very, very forceful.”

The Israeli prime minister’s comments come after a recent uptick in hostilities between the U.S. and Iran following the collapse of the memorandum of understanding between the two countries. President Trump has reportedly considered a “massive” attack on Iran and a potential return to major military operations, but also told reporters on Friday that the U.S. is still talking with Iranian officials.

The U.S. and Iran militaries, however, did not exchange fire overnightSaturday, which broke a 13-day streak of tit-for-tat strikes over alleged violations of the ceasefire agreement.

Netanyahu is planning to meet with Trump at the White House this coming week amid the simmering tensions. The prime minister will also attend the funeral of late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who was a staunch supporter of Israel and leading advocate for confronting Iran.
