Immigration, crime fighting remain winning issues for Trump: poll

President Donald Trump should further lean into the issue of immigration if he wants to set Republicans up for a win in the 2028 election, according to a new poll.
The poll from Reuters/Ipsos, which surveyed 1,016 Americans from September 19 to 21, found that Trump has 42 percent support on immigration.
While not a majority, it is still much higher than former President Joe Biden’s approval rating on the issue, 26 percent, according to a Reuters poll in early December 2024.
For a brief moment in late February to early March of this year, 50 percent of Americans approved of Trump’s mass deportation policies.
Americans also trust Trump more than they did Biden on the economy, though not by much, according to the poll.
In December, Biden’s approval rating on the economy had sank to a dismal 34 percent.
When Trump took office, his approval was at 43 percent, but as of the latest reading, he has sunk close to Biden’s poor levels at 35 percent.
This comes after the Trump administration has spent months ratcheting up tariffs on nearly every country on Earth.
