Hazardous chemical leak in Mississippi forces evacuations
Emergency crews are responding to an ammonia leak at the CF Industries plant on Highway 49, just north of Yazoo City.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said they were responding to the leak Wednesday afternoon.
MEMA said there was an evacuation being put in place. People who live in the Renshaw Road and Generette Road area were being asked to evacuate their homes immediately.
A large plume of smoke could be seen rising from the site, and multiple people who live in the area reported feeling a large jolt as if something exploded.
The Yazoo County Emergency Management Agency confirmed to 16 WAPT News that multiple agencies are on the scene. The Mississippi Highway Patrol said they were assisting with traffic control in the area.
