Hawley pushes Blanche to settle abortion pill case

Todd Blanche’s path to becoming the next attorney general was already going to be rocky, with at least two Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee noncommittal on supporting him.
Now, a third Senate Judiciary Republican has potentially difficult questions for the current acting attorney general as he seeks confirmation to lead the Justice Department.
In an interview Wednesday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), said he wanted to know whether conservatives could count on Blanche to settle multiple lawsuits over mifepristone — a pill used in more than two-thirds of abortions — and clear the way for potential restrictions on the medication.
At the moment, Hawley leans toward believing Blanche, a staunch abortion opponent, will want to settle the cases, and expects to be able to vote for him in committee.
“It would be a shock to me if he says, ‘No, we’re not going to do that,’” Hawley told POLITICO, adding, “he’s been very, very good on pro-life issues, so I’m sure he’ll be good on this.”
