Harmeet Dhillon: DOJ to Sue Over California Glock Ban

Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for civil rights, told Newsmax Wednesday the Department of Justice has warned California Gov. Gavin Newsom that they will sue if the state’s new law banning the sale of Glocks goes into effect.

The law, which is set to take effect Wednesday, July 1, says that licensed firearms dealers “shall not sell, offer for sale, exchange, give, transfer, or deliver any semiautomatic machinegun-convertible pistol.”

Glock “switches” are already illegal, but Democrat lawmakers in California took the restriction further, passing a party-line bill that bans the sale of any new firearm with a Glock-style design.

The law does not prohibit owning existing Glocks or reselling used ones within the state.

“The Glock has about 65% of the handgun market,” Dhillon said on “Carl Higbie: Frontline.”

“For over a decade now California’s made it has not allowed any firearms onto its roster of approved firearms that can be sold by retailers,” she said.

“And now they’re saying that because the Glock theoretically can be modified in ways that California doesn’t approve of, even though Glock doesn’t sell the modifications, they’re banning their retail sale, which is outrageous,” Dhillon added.
