DeSantis bars H-1B visas at Florida public universities

Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., on Monday announced that he had directed the Florida Board of Governors to end the use of the H-1B visas to secure foreign employees for the public university system.
H-1B visas have faced considerable scrutiny in the past few years, largely due to allegations of widespread fraud in the system and criticisms that the visa has served to undercut American workers in the labor market.
“We can do it with our residents in Florida or with Americans and if we can’t do it, then man, we need to really look deeply about what is going on with this situation!” he said.
The announcement follows Vice President JD Vance announcing a probe into alleged fraud within the H-1B system earlier this month.
“Big corporations and fraudsters overseas are using this program to undercut the wages of American workers,” Vance said. “If you are trying to take advantage of that visa program, you are not allowed into the United States.”
