Mack Rhoades, chairman of the College Football Playoff and athletic director of Baylor University, is stepping down from each position due to personal reasons.

CFP Executive Director Rich Clark said in a news release Thursday that Rhoades “will step down for personal reasons,” ESPN reported. The CFP is likely to seek a replacement for Rhoades and will proceed with selecting a new chair.

OutKick originally reported the news of Rhoades’ exit, later confirmed by ESPN.

Rhoades told ESPN that he requested the leave from his position at Baylor but declined to provide further details.

Baylor informed Adam Rittenberg of ESPN that the school received allegations Monday concerning Rhoades. These allegations aren’t connected to NCAA rules, Title IX or student welfare, nor do they pertain to the football team, which indicates they are unrelated to Rhoades’ altercation that allegedly took place during a game in September that was against a football player, ESPN reported.

The CFP generally requires that athletic directors serving on the selection committee be active, “sitting” ADs. The 12-member panel was already down one member this campaign following committee member Randall McDaniel stepping down in October due to personal reasons.

ESPN reported that Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek has been nominated to serve as the new CFP committee chair, while Utah athletic director Mark Harlan has gotten a nomination to serve on the selection committee. Both nominations require approval from the CFP management committee, which consists of the 10 FBS conference commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua.
