The Chicago Bears are taking another step forward in a possible move to Hammond, Indiana, the team announced Friday.

The decision — announced on social media — comes after more than a year of negotiations between city and state leaders with the team, and only a few days after Illinois lawmakers failed to pass a bill that would have incentivized the team to stay in Chicago.

The team’s Board of Directors met Thursday “and voted to advance our stadium development project in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact site to be selected,” the team wrote on social media. “We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region … .

“It will bring Chicagoland together and deliver new opportunities to its residents and businesses.”
