The Trump administration has installed chain-link fencing, surveillance cameras, and increased security around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool following reported concerns over damage to the recently renovated landmark, according to multiple outlets including The Wall Street Journal.

The move comes weeks after completion of a multimillion-dollar overhaul of the historic site, part of President Donald Trump’s broader effort to refurbish major Washington landmarks ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Officials have described the added security as a response to vandalism concerns at the site, including alleged damage to the newly installed pool lining and surrounding landscaping.

President Donald Trump has threatened jail time for anyone caught vandalizing the site, saying those responsible would face prosecution, while also suggesting that some of the damage may be deliberate sabotage rather than accidental wear or construction issues.

As of now, authorities have not confirmed any arrests specifically tied to vandalism of the Reflecting Pool renovation, though there have been enforcement actions and citations reported in connection with unrelated incidents in the surrounding area.

Federal officials have also not publicly substantiated broader claims of coordinated sabotage, and reporting indicates that some of the incidents under review involve minor disturbances or conduct near the memorial rather than direct destruction of the pool itself.
