Buttigieg leads latest poll among Dems as 2028 presidential candidate

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has moved into the lead in the wide-open race for the Democrat presidential nomination, according to a new Emerson College Polling survey.
The respected poll also suggests improving political momentum for Democrats heading into the 2026 midterm elections.
The national poll found Democrats holding an 11-point advantage on the generic congressional ballot, with 53% of likely voters saying they would support the Democrat candidate for Congress compared with 42% backing the Republican.
Democrat support has grown strongly this year with a January poll showing just a 6-point gap in their favor.
The July result marks one of the strongest Democrat generic ballot leads recorded by Emerson during President Donald Trump’s second term.
The survey also shows a fluid Democrat presidential field with no dominant candidate.
