Free Press founder Bari Weiss is expected to be named CBS’ News editor-in-chief as early as next week, multiple news outlets reported this week, and Paramount is expected to purchase Weiss’ outlet.

Weiss, who previously worked for the New York Times as an opinion writer, is expected to be named to the top post as early as Monday but sources told the New York Post that the actual timing could still be changed.

The former opinion writer created her own media company in 2021 and the Free Press will remain separate from CBS News, but will be owned by Paramount. Weiss is expected to bring a more conservative voice to the left-leaning network after building a reputation for being critical of antisemitism and “woke” elites in mainstream media.

The Free Press acquisition is expected to cost $150 million, the New York Post reported.

Weiss will also reportedly have a direct line to Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison instead of going through the network’s President Tom Cibrowski, who is expected to retain his role.

The new hiring comes after CBS News faced backlash for allegedly deceptively editing a video of former Vice President Kamala Harris last year when she was running for president that appeared to portray her in a more favorable light.

President Donald Trump sued the network over the edit last year and Paramount Skydance settled the suit for $16 million in July.
